In a country where a pool is as common as a garden, keeping the water clean is a year-round job. Many UAE villas, hotels and resorts now use salt chlorinators instead of adding chlorine by hand. These systems turn dissolved salt into chlorine inside the pool, which means the quality of the salt directly affects how well the system works.
This guide explains how to choose pool salt, how much a pool actually needs, and what hotels, pool service companies and distributors should look for when buying in bulk. Namakwala is an Indian salt manufacturer and exporter, and its pool salt is made for exactly this use.
A saltwater pool isn’t a chlorine-free pool. The pool holds a low level of dissolved salt. As water passes through a salt cell, electrolysis converts some of that salt into chlorine, which sanitizes the water, and then the chlorine reverts to salt. Because the salt is reused, you add it only occasionally, not every week.
This is why salt quality matters. The cell sits in the water circuit, so impurities in the salt can end up on the cell, in the water and on the pool surfaces.
High purity
Namakwala pool salt is a minimum 99% sodium chloride (NaCl). A higher-purity salt leaves less insoluble residue behind, and impurities such as calcium, magnesium and metals can contribute to scaling or staining.
Non-iodized and additive-free
Pool salt should be non-iodized. Namakwala pool salt is non-iodized and chemical-free, as the product is intended for pools and softening systems rather than for the table.
Fast dissolving
Free-flowing crystals dissolve quickly, so the pool reaches the target salinity sooner and there’s less undissolved salt sitting on the pool floor.
Low moisture
Moisture is held below 0.4%, so bags stay free-flowing and don’t cake in storage, which matters in UAE summer humidity and heat.
The right salt level depends on your chlorinator, so follow the manufacturer’s recommended level and test your water before adding any. As a worked example, here is the arithmetic for a target of 3,000 ppm starting from fresh water. (3,000 ppm equals 3 grams of salt per litre, or 3 kg per 1,000 litres.)
Pool volume = Salt for 3,000 ppm = 25 kg bags
30 m³ (30,000 L) = 90 kg = About 4 bags
50 m³ (50,000 L) = 150 kg = 6 bags
100 m³ (100,000 L) = 300 kg = 12 bags
These are illustrative figures only. Always test the existing salinity first and use your chlorinator manufacturer’s target.
Salt doesn’t evaporate. It is lost mainly through splash-out, backwashing and draining, so top-up needs are usually modest. When you add fresh water, check the level again.
Properties with several pools or large leisure areas use salt in volume, so the practical points are:
Storage: keep bags off the floor, dry and out of direct sun. Salt kept dry stays free-flowing.
Bag size: 25 kg bags are easy for staff to handle, and jumbo bags suit properties with a forklift or a central store.
Consistency: the same product every order means the same behaviour in the cell and the same dissolving time.
If you resell pool salt or supply it as part of a maintenance contract, you also care about:
Property = Specification
Appearance = White crystalline granules
Purity = Minimum 99% NaCl
Moisture Content = Less than 0.4%
Iodine = Non-iodized
Forms = Pool salt, water softening tablets, granular and compacted forms
Packaging = 10 kg, 20 kg, 25 kg, 50 kg, jumbo bags
Shelf Life = 24 months
Note: Specifications can be customized as per industry needs.
Namakwala ships pool salt from India under export documentation. Please confirm UAE import and customs requirements with your clearing agent.
A salt chlorinator is only as good as the salt that goes into it. Choosing a pure, non-iodized, fast-dissolving pool salt, and buying it in a bag size that suits how you work, is a simple way to keep pools clear and the equipment healthy.

What kind of salt should I use in a salt chlorinator pool?
Use high-purity, non-iodized pool salt. Namakwala pool salt is a minimum 99% NaCl and non-iodized.
How much salt does my pool need?
It depends on your pool volume and your chlorinator’s recommended level. As an example, reaching 3,000 ppm needs about 3 kg of salt per 1,000 litres. Test your water and follow your equipment manual.
Does pool salt evaporate in the UAE heat?
No. Water evaporates but the salt stays, and salt is lost mainly through splash-out, backwashing and draining.
What bag sizes are available?
10 kg, 20 kg, 25 kg and 50 kg bags, and jumbo bags.
Can I order pool salt in bulk or private-label packaging?
Bulk orders are supported, and branded or private-label packaging can be discussed. Contact Namakwala with your requirement.
